22-2. An alternative jig, made of wood, is not adjustable. The groove is made to fit the wire. Here the curving is somewhat further along.

22-3. It is essential to check the wire frequently against the curve it is to fit. In the example illustrated, the ring will overlap the base slightly, forming a sort of pedestal for the base. This must be taken into account when curves are matched.

The next step is to solder the wire into a ring, per the usual procedure (Ch. 6). Because it is not feasible to secure the ring with binding wire, the heat of soldering may cause the edges to shift. Guard against this by using a poker to hold the two edges in alignment until the solder cools and hardens (Fig. 22-8).
